STRENGTH & CONDITIONING

Esperanza's weight room has a rich tradition of excellence dating back to the 1970's.  Coach Bill Pendleton, who has been a part of the school and athletic department for over 40 years, has had a major impact on the development of Esperanza athletes in this building. He started the Esperanza strength program in 1977. His father ran the weight room at Cerritos College when he was growing up where he developed a life long interest in strength development. He is a United States Olympic Weightlifting Association certified Club level Coach and National Level Coach. The program has produced national champion teenage powerlifters and national champion junior olympic lifters. All the equipment in the weight room was bought with funds from Aztec players and boosters. Because of this the football team has access at all times. The room is over 4,000 square feet and has over 100,000 dollars worth the equipment including 16 olympic lifting platforms and top level Eleiko Olympic plates. The Aztec Football Weightlifting page has a Weightlifting Hall of Fame and a list of every lifter since 1973 that has reached the marks of excellence which are the following:

250 Lb. Clean

200 Lb. Snatch
